Great Northern SD9 leaving Mpls MN in 1969.
Note the GN SD9 is running long hood forward leading the train. This train had left Union Yard off Hwy 280 by the University of MN. That was the GNs main large yard on the east end of the GN system.

Cody White General There's an interesting story why this engine got painted Big Sky Blue. On September 4 1967, the 569 and 562 were parked in front of the yard office in Superior, and a cut of cars on an adjacent track rolled loose punctured the fuel tank on the 569. The patchwork is evident in this photo on the forward tank. These two engines were listed as "destroyed in Fire,Superior" and sat unservicable until June 1968 when bith engines were repaired and painted Big Sky Blue. Neat Story. Nice Shot too! I am a huge fan of Big Sky Blue! 3/27/2017 6:55:15 PM
