Great Northern train headed from Mpls yard at University of MN to Wazata in 1967. |
Description: |
This train is in back of the main Mpls MN GN depot on a sunny day in 1967. The main GN mainline ran from Mpls via St. Cloud to Seattle and runs by Northtown. The secondary GN mainline is still in use by the BNSF and ran from the Mpls Jct wye past Wazata on Lake Minnetonka to Willmar. Some of the GN F units survived on the BN to 1984. The curved tracks to the right are the depot track leads to the Mpls GN depot. The MTM saved one of the GN F units stored at Jackson St. in St Paul, but it was repainted NP. Hopefully someday they can power it up and repaint it in its true GN colors. The MTM roundhouse at Jackson St. in St Paul has about 8 GN passenger cars saved in GN paint and runs train rides in Osceola Mn 30 min out of St Paul past Stillwater. Train rides are Sat from 10-4. |
