This was the main Great Northern roundhouse in Mpls MN at Harrison St. Its the home of Milwaukee Road #261 today. The turotable was donated by the BNSF to the GN Jackson St Roundhouse in St Paul MN open to the public Saturdays from 10-4 for train rides. http://www.mtmuseum.org/jsrh.shtml The#BN consolidated all their Twin Cities operations to NP Northtown yard in Mpls MN in Fridley. The GN purchased GN F45s and planned to put them on the point of each mainline frieght train. The GN had a major roundhouse at Mpls Jct near the GN depot that serviced GN engines for the Twin Cities area. The GN also had a backshop at Dale St., and another roundhouse at Jackson St in St Paul. This blue GN engine house is currently used by the Milw 261 steam crew for servicing their steam engine. |
