This is the Winnepeg unit at retirement age of 60. This is a former NP GP9, note the NP bell. I think its still in storage. Railroads ordered GP9s with air tanks on the roof for passenger GP9s to store boiler water for heating passenger cars in part of the fuel tank just for boiler water. Note the BNSF still has 4 SD9s operating in 2012, units #1550-1553. Search the RR archive by BNSF 1553. |
