Description:  Purchased these at a train show and scanned them with a USB scanner. This line is still used today by the BNSF in Mpls over the Mississippi River.

Description:  Purchased these at a train show and scanned them with a USB scanner. This depot saw 125 trains per day including mail trains at the peak of passenger rail travel.

Title:  Mpls MN depot in 1943.
Description:  This once was a busy travel hub. The depot was torn down in the late 1970s, serving Amtrak for a few years. The BNSF has a mainline to the left that remains today for its Wazata line. At its peak this depot saw 125 passenger and mail trains daily serving the GN, NP, CB&Q, CNW, and CGW.

Description:  This historic bridge remains today in Mpls as a walking path crossing the Mississippi River. This once was the largest grain milling operation in the world.

St Paul MN Daytons Bluff CB&Q Burlington Route steam in 1943.

Description:  The CPR still runs the hump and shops in St Paul. UP operates the CGW yard to the right, and the BNSF has an auto rack unloader to the left. That is a CB&Q Burlington Route steamer 1 mile before the St Paul Union depot. The BNSF and CPR share the two double mainlines from St Paul to Chicago today, even some UP trains. The water tank on the left was for the CBQ. The stack on the right is the Milw engine house that remains working today. UP Belt yard is to the right. Photo taken from Warner Road bridge used today by cars.

Description:  The Milwaukee Road had a large 360 degree full roundhouse next to their South Minneapolis yard at Hiawatha Ave and E 26th street. Minnesota Commercial still serves the grain elevators along Hiawatha ave in 2022. Minnesota Commercial still uses the Milwaukee Road shortline bridge in Minneapolis to cross the Mississippi River.

Title:  Great Northern steam engine 2-8-8-0 at Mpls Jct MN in 1947
Description:  Normally assigned to the GN iron range division the large articulated engines came through Mpls Jct MN at times and also massive 2-8-8-2s from the Rocky Mt division as well. Note the GN coaling towers at Mpls Jct MN. Horsepower around 6,300 and could haul 200 loaded ore car trains at 14,000 tons without aid. This N3 class articulated ran between Allouez and Hibbing ore mines. Steam lasted thru the fall of 1957 on the GN. Mpls Jct has a wye to turn these large engines, and the wye remains on the BNSF today.

Description:  The GN had around 25 of these in the Rocky Mtn Division rated at 6,400 HP. Steam on the GN lasted until the fall grain rush of 1957. A few of these went to the MN iron range around 1953 to help out.

Title:  Great Northern 2-8-8-2 Minot ND 1954.
Description:  Great Northern stored many of the BIG 2882s around 1954 as deisels replaced them on the Rocky Mtd Division of the GN, a few were still running near Duluth in 1954 as reassigned. In 1957 GN still had 75 steam engines running between Minot and Minneapolis for the fall grain rush of 1957. These were about 6,400 HP.
